Supported Cameras |
Cam2Com uses Olympus and Canon SDKs to talk to the cameras. There are many different SDKs from both manufacturers. Cam2Com uses only some of them, so it supports only some of the cameras that possibly can be controlled from a computer.
This table lists camera models that worked with Cam2Com as of October 2010.

NOTE: Even though a camera may be listed as working above, it may still not work with Cam2Com as the version of the firmware in the camera is very important. See below how to determine the firmware version. Firmware can be updated in the camera by sending it to an Olympus service center. Known versions of firmware are listed in the Firmware Compatibility Chart. Read about other firmware problems in the Bugs, Limitations, and Such section.
Different camera models may have slightly different sets of features controlled; it depends on how SDKs work with those cameras and whether or not the feature is present in the camera at all (like zoom or LCD modes).
NOTE: Cam2Com cannot work with serial ports.
Cam2Com can work with multiple cameras at the same time. However, while it can simultaneously control multiple Olympus "Rye" SDK (3.x) cameras, it may work only with one Olympus "Wheat" SDK (2.0) and with one Canon CD SDK camera at one time.
It is also possible to connect one Olympus "Wheat", one Canon CD camera and several Olympus "Rye" cameras and take pictures with all of them at the same time.
Download firmware from the Olympus Download site.
Firmware files for C-7x0 cameras can be found in 700 series Yahoo Group.
For C-5060WZ, C-8080WZ, C-5050Z it can be found here.
In Olympus Master software go to Online Services menu and check the Update Camera function.
Send camera to Olympus Service center in your country.
How to check the firmware version:
You will need any picture file that had been taken with your camera. If you have a utility to read the EXIF header information check the value of
the "Software" tag. If you don't have such a utility, open the file in a text editor
like Notepad and search for a string beginning with 'v552', 'v553' or
similar. This string is the firmware version. The whole string looks like v553u-77,
v552u-A79, etc.
Cam2Com also can display the firmware version of the camera, but only if it can take pictures with it. See "Detecting Camera Capabilities" for details.
Cam2Com does NOT work and will NEVER work with these cameras: C-720UZ, C-50, E10, E20, C-5000, and many others. The firmware of these cameras cannot take commands from the computer.
Future cameras: Cam2Com has the ability to self-adjust to some cameras that may be released in the future. At this time it is impossible to know which future cameras will or will not work with Cam2Com. See Automatic detection of new cameras for how to start using new camera models with Cam2Com.
